Jchem for Excel is installed. But when I convert smiles to structure, both the structure and “=JCSYSStructure(long string)” show in one cell. How to remove the text and only show structure?

Dear Tracy,

there is a setting inside Excel, which you can show/hide formulas in the cell with.

Setting/Special settings/Settings for this worksheet/Show or Hide calculated values or formulas in the cell.

Please switch off the JChemExcel link by taking out the pipe from that check box,
it should have been unchecked as default so maybe you or your collegue switched that on in the past.

Thank you for response.

But I could not find the setting tab. I am using Office 2007. i found the Excel Options/Advanced/Display options for this worksheet/, the box for "show formulas in cells instead of their calculated results" is unchecked.  But it does not help. Is this the right place for settings?

Thanks

Yes, exactly.

I have Hungarian Office, and tried to translate Hungarian captions back to English.

But still not working... the text is still there... any other thing I should change? By the way, where is the JChemExcel link? I did not see it ...

Thanks

Hi,

are other formulas visible for you as well? Like if you type 1 in A1, =SUM(A1) in A2, then what do you see? 1 or the formula, or both?

Regards,

Tamas.

No, I will not see formular for any other function, such as SUM, or even draw a molecule from Add/Edit. The problem is only for smiles to structure, both formular and structure show up.

Thanks!

Tracy,

when you take out the checked mark could you please check which worksheet is set in the combo a little bit up and right to this setting. Because I think it should be done for all worksheets of your workbbok. It seems that it was set as default ??

The box is unchecked as default. So it is set up for all worksheets. None other function will show formula in any worksheet.

Thanks!

Unfortunatelly, I have no other idea, we cannot reproduce the issue at all.

Could you please upload a JChem4XL workbook containing structures where the formula and the structure can be seen at the same time overlapping each-other?

Plus a screen shot, if we open your workbook without perceiving your issue we could imagine how it looks like at least.

I see, and please the workbook as well, to be able to check its settings ...

If it contains confidential structures, please replace them with benzene.

Thanks,

Dear Tracy,

realized what is your issue on that sheet6. The problem is that the type of the cells where you put the smiles in were explicit string cells. Now JChem4XL requires generic cell type for structures, please before converting the structures from smiles double check the type of the cell and set its type to generic (first in the list) otherwise Excel will produce the following situation:

when I asked cell for its properties then

.Formula gave back the formula - this is OK
.Value gave back the formula - this is NOT OK, it should not
.HasFormula - gave back FALSE, which is NOT OK

after setting the correct type

.Formula gave back the formula - this is OK
.Value gave back EMPTY - this is OK
.HasFormula - gave back TRUE, which is OK

The file ....
