JChem for .NET (5.7.0.712) with JChem for SharePoint

Hello,

We have a SharePoint installation that has JChem for SharePoint installed on it (I don't know the exact version).  We are also purchasing a solution that uses the JChem for .NET v5.7.0.712.  In order to get the solution to work, (I believe) we need to install the proper version of JChem for .NET, but will that break the current version that we have installed for JChem for SharePoint?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Was the JChem for SharePoint solution installed by MSI or wsp files?

I believe the JChem solution was deployed by MSI.  The custom solution using JChem for .NET will be deployed via WSP.

Hi Mark,

If you have a file from ChemAxon with a solution for SharePoint 2010 (with extension .wsp) we strongly recommend you to not use it.

That version was an alpha version and should not be installed on production environments. Since then we had a complete architecture change and many more improvements.

However, if you istalled JChem for SharePoint product using an MSI (NOTE: not JChem API) when you downloaded the product the version number should have been in the archive name; or you can find the version by going to Control Panel -> Programs and Features and locate JChem for SharePoint product.

Hi Catalin,

Thanks for your help.  I'm still not quite sure how to proceed though.  The JChem for SharePoint is already installed. Assuming it's been installed with the MSI, if we were to install the JChem for .NET as well, will that conflict in any way with the existing JChem for SharePoint?

Hi,

You can have as many version of JChem .NET as you want; that will not interfere with JChem for SharePoint product.

However it is very important to know how JChem for SharePoint was installed because if you are using our alpha product, then having multiple JChem versions can lead to different versions of the same assembly being loaded into the process which in turn will lead to exceptions when trying to load a type.

If you installed with an MSI we could use the version so we can suggest an upgrade to our latest version which might address several critical bugs that were found in previous version and also has improved performance.

Thank you very much - I will verify that the alpha product is not the one that is installed before we proceed.

Cheers,

Mark
