MarvinSketch License Question

Hello,

I am wanting to use the Sketch feature in MarvinSketch in a larger program that helps organic students learn reactions. I am hoping to use MarvinSketch to cut down on development time, since I am a student with a full schedule. The full program will be a desktop application, and it will only use the drawing features of MarvinSketch.

I have a research license. Would it be within the license to do what I have described above?

Thank you

Alex

Hi Alex,

This is a really great news :)

So, you have an academic research license - that won't be the best for you, since its condition states that it is strictly connected to you, and only you should use it.

However, exactly for these purposes we created the FreeWeb license type. Please read through the short description about it - and let me know if that is something that you are looking for. If you think that's fine, I will contact you via email, I need some info about your project that would not be fair to discuss in public :)

Also, please note that MarvinSketch is a Java based chemical editor. Some of the new browsers / browser versions stopped supporting Java... We have a non-Java sketcher, called Marvin JS. I think that might suite your needs better ;)

I hope that was useful, and let me know if you want to proceed ;)

Hi Alex,

A quick correction: I realized that actually you do not aim to build a website; but have the MarvinSketch integrated into another desktop program. Well - that is a bit more difficult case. I will need to see more details about your plans - what you want to use this application for, who will be able to access it.

I'm not quite sure if this is relevant at all, but we have a tool, called Marvin Live that might actually be a lot better solution for your purposes (you can basically share a single molecule drawing canvas with for example your students.) Maybe that can also be interesting for you - though that has a fee. More about its usage in education here: http://confchem.ccce.divched.org/2015FallCCCENLP5
