Whenever I talk about upgrading JChem versions in ACE, the editorial production team starts to worry about introducing new bugs with the new version. Do you have any wise words that might reassure them?

Hi,

We regularly test our products with automated and manual tests during development and before every relese.

We develop the code of JChem (and Marvin) in multiple branches.

This ensures that major changes in the development version will not destabilize the production branch.

The first two digits of your version numbers represent the major version, the last digit represents the bugfix version. For example JChem 3.1.1 is the first upgrade/bugfix version of 3.1.

In spite of every testing effort, there is a chance that new bugs arise or old bugs may be discovered (this is true for all SW products in the world).

Should this happen, we provide a version with the fix in a very short time.

This ensures that no discovered bug can be a problem for long, please see our release history:
