Dear ChemAxon support,

we have received and installed the license.cxl file, but applications keep complaing about the missing licenses. Please help.
In case you have created the license.cxl file with copy-pasting the content from the received e-mail, this can be a character encoding problem.

This can happen for example with Notepad, which saves the file as single-byte ANSI (ASCII) by default.

Please save the attachment file instead of using a text editor.

In case this is not possible for some reason, please try to remove the first line of the license file to solve the encoding problem:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Hi,

I'm encountering the same issue as above. The license is installed, every field in license manager says 'valid', and it is partially true, as I can acces all licensed options (like creating MySQL base) except for calculator plugins. They keep complaining :

Code:
expression uses unlicensed calculator plugin: [plugin name]

How can I solve this problem? Is there an option to install licenses manually for each plugin?

Best regards

Anna

Hi Anna,

have you tried removing the first line (shown below) from the xml file?

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

We experienced the same behavior (all lines seems valid, but license errors appear) and this modification solved the problem.

Does this help you?

Kind regards, Judit

Hi,

yes, I removed the first line from a license file - still the same. It loads via license manager, but that's all. Plugins behave the same way, the rest of progs. is ok - as it was before.

Do you use the plugins on a server?

License Manager installs licenses only for local use (client side). In case you use JChem Server, you need to copy the license file into the .chemaxon (chemaxon without the leading dot character on Windows) sub-directory of the home directory of the user who started JChem Server.

This documentation may help you how to install licenses on servers: http://www.chemaxon.com/jchem/doc/admin/cartridge.html#regkey

well, thanks for the link, but my problem seems to be local - my instantJChem is installed localy and I am currently creating a local, derby database. Maybe there is a way to put license keys into specific programs? I don't know what's wrong

Hi Anna,

sorry, first I should have asked which program do you use :)

Instant JChem does not use Marvin 5.0 yet, so it cannot use the new licenses.

You need to use the old license keys until Instant JChem 2.3 is released.

I hope you can finally get it to work.

Hi,

I downloaded all the new versions of software for Marvin Beans, and instantjchem, and then used the license manager to update my license file from the info at the following link:

http://www.chemaxon.com/forum/ftopic3670.html

When I attempt to start InstantJChem I get a crash error. I've re-installed and the error remains the same. In fact it was the same error I received when the clock hit midnight on Oct 1st.

What's going on?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hello Andrew,

can you see the licenses enumerated in the License Manager > License Overview panel? Do they all have a Valid status? Please attach a screenshot if you are not sure.

Is the error message only about a missing license? Please also post the error message in case you are not sure.

Kind regards,

Judit

Hi,

Yeah of course it says "valid".

I'm sorry but the information you provide is not enough to help.

Please send a screenshot or the error message.

Maybe there is something in them that gives a clue about the problem.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Andrew,

A minor thing: please start a new topic for a new problem next time.

As you have also asked in e-mail, I copy here the answer I sent (so others can also see):
Quote:

Hi Andrew,

This does not look like a license problem to me, in such cases we throw an exception which is easy to understand.

It seems to be more connected with the Java Virtual Machine.

Have you upgraded your Java version (e.g. system update) or made any changes to it before the error ?

Does this persist after a system restart ?

I do not know how easy to change the Java Virtual Machine on Macintosh, but I would try that first.

(doesn't matter if older or newer version, the point is to be different)

Your Java installation might even be corrupt for some reason.

Best regards,

Szilard

Hi,

Try to use another Java for IJC (e.g. Java 1.6.).

With the help of the jdkhome parameter, you can specify Java for IJC.

The configuration file where you can do it is etc/instantjchem.conf in the IJC directory ( /Applications/ChemAxon/InstantJChem/).

If you have downloaded the wrapped application, the above contents is wrapped into an app file. In this case, do the following to access the conf file:

Left click on the icon of the application and select "Show package contents" from the popup menu.

Then go to the Contents/Resources/instantjchem/etc/ directory where you can find instantjchem.conf.

To overdefine used Java for IJC, search line that starts with #jdkhome=.

Remove the # character from the beginning of the line and modify the value of the property (give the location of the required Java).

Code:
jdkhome=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6/Home

The location of your Java 1.6 can be differ, check that the given path is valid when you modify the jdkhome property.

Finally, save modification and (re)start IJC.

It seems to be a general OS X problem. This issue appears also in other Java applications.

Please see this Apple forum topic.

They suggest a workaround, hopefully it may help.
Quote:
Similarly, NetBeans causes a crash when I attempt to launch it from the Finder (double click). It does not crash if I launch it from the terminal, i.e., with the command

open "/Applications/NetBeans/NetBeans 6.1.app"
To start IJC like this, you can use the following command:

Code:
open /home/<username>/Desktop/instantjchem.app

Of course, the path can be differ.

Hello sir

My license.cxl key is also not working for some groups. In substructural search , it is working fine for some groups but for other groups it is giving the error "No valid license has found"

ChemAxon 7c2d26e5cf

As I see, your question relates to substructure search, not to Marvin. I have moved your topic to the JChem forum.

Hi,

Please let us know yor software version and the full error message.

Pleae check if you have the same problem as here:

https://www.chemaxon.com/forum/ftopic8492.html

In that case upgrading to the latest version helps.

A similar problem here. Running Marvin sketch, then it says that will perform calculations in evaluation mode or (depending on the calculation type) that just that there is no license at all. Please help!

ChemAxon d51151248d

06-08-2015 11:35:41

Hi,

The reason why you couldn't run the calculations is that we plan to re-direct our users from (free) single-shot calculations in Marvin to demo sites. This means that you either apply for a new evaluation/free academic license to run your calculations in MarvinSketch or you can use the (free) demo sites. Currently demo sites are only available for the logD and logS calculations.

Please note that the demo sites are public ! To apply for a license please contact our sales team.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for answering. Well, one of the most important plugins (for me) that I need in Marvin is the solubility predictor, and it is just not working, even in evaluation mode, and as you say, there is no demo site for this feature yet. How could I fix it?

ChemAxon d51151248d

06-08-2015 12:20:28

Hi,

There is a demo site for the Solubility as the picture you posted shows. If you click on the blue demo link in the window that the picture shows the demo page should pop up.

I also post the demo page link here for you:

https://disco.chemaxon.com/apps/calculations-examples/solubility-predictor.html

I hope this helps,

Daniel
