Trial Version of JChem Cartridge

I am a new user currently evaluating the trial version of JChem Cartidge, with a possibility of recommending a purchase. As I am quite new to the product, hopefully my question won't sound to daft.

I have (as far as I can tell) successfully installed the cartridge onto Oracle 10g XE. I have been able to upload some structures and other data using the JChem Manager GUI. I can then query these through Accord for Excel providing structure identifiers and returning mol files, SMILES etc back to the spreadsheet to be shown as structures.

However I am not able to run the SQL operators such as jc_contains. When I try to run these I get an ORA-00904 Invalid Identifier on jc_contains.

Am I missing some synonyms, grants etc?

Does the trial version not include these operators?

Or perhaps is it something that I have failed to install?

I hope that somebody can suggest something that I have missed....

Many thanks

Hi FTM,

jc_contains operator should be part of the evaluation version and my colleague will give you some hints on how to check your installation.

I just would like to point you to our new database client application, Instant JChem. It can connect to JChem databases in Oracle or MySQL, includes a spreadsheet (a form builder is also on the way) and structure searching is trivial.

(Please ask for an evaluation license key to access Oracle or MySQL data. The use of the embedded Derby database is free.)

As it is lacking required features, Oracle Express Edition is not supported for JChem Cartridge. Please, read the Software Requirements: http://www.chemaxon.com/jchem/doc/admin/cartridge.html#req. You need at least Oracle Standard One.

When you say "not supported" does that mean the installation will actually not work? Or does it just mean that ChemAxon do not offer maintenance support with Oracle 10g XE?

I just wanted to make sure, before having to buy an Oracle licence for my evaluation period.

Many thanks

It means that it will not work with Oracle XE.

If Oracle SQL access is not essential, I suggest to have a look at JChem Base: http://www.chemaxon.com/product/jc_base.html

It has a Java and .NET programming interface, which is also available from JSP (Java Server Pages).

It works with different kinds of database systems (even free ones) and it should be OK with Oracle 10g XE.
