Can't start IJC...

Hi,

I suddenly can't start IJC anymore (5.10.3, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bits). The IJC announcement windows shows up for a very short while, then an error message, and the program aborts. I'm attaching the ~/.instantjchem/ijc_5_10/var/log messages.log file for your convenience.

Please advice!

Firefox didn't allow me to attach the message.log file. Please provide an e-mail address to which I can send it!

Hi, please send it to my email address ([email protected]). Or if you change the file name messages.log to messages.txt it should allow you to attach the file.

I dont know how is it possible, but it looks like IJC doesn't have access rights to write to the cache directory.

java.lang.Exception: Unable to create bundle cache lock file: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /mnt/compchem/evehom/.instantjchem/ijc_5_10/var/cache/netigso/cache.lock (Permission denied)

Please ensure that the user running IJC has access rights to edit IJC cache directory (and user directory).

Also you might want to setup IJC cache directory on your local(main  - faster) HDD. For changing cache directory run IJC with --cachedir "path to cache dir" parameter(or setup it in instantjchem.conf file).

It looks like the ownerships of some of the files and folders under .instantjchem/ijc_5_10/var/cache has changed to root. I changed them back to myself and now IJC works fine again.
