Structures converted to ball & stick display in forms

Hi.

We’ve noticed in our testing that the structures in forms in most of our IJC schema’s get converted to Ball&Stick when upgraded from 5.5.1 to 5.9 when previously they were set as wireframe.

Is there a way to fix this before we upgrade?  Otherwise we will have a lot of forms to fix.

Hi Mike,

I was unable to encounter this problem. Could you provide a small sample project where the proble occurs? If so please send it to my email. Are there any specific-common project properties to this unwanted behavior?

Well, it seems that the problem is not in the project itself. Looks like some implicit settings has changed. We will release 5.9.1 version soon and try to fix this for that release.

There is a fix you can apply even after 5.9 upgrade. The settings are stored in the form file and we simply can not change default visualization settings in IJC so I propose to search for "ballstick" in the project files and replace it with "wireframe". It changes all renderer settings to wireframe.

I have around 100 IJC schemas to fix for this problem, so it looks like I would still have to apply this change 100 times.  Please can you be more specific about what to change in the form file and where it is stored in the database.

It would be nice if you could provide a quicker fix for this, otherwise our upgrade is going to be painful.  We need to do the upgrade after Easter so is it worth waiting for the 5.9.1 release where its fixed.  Do you know a release date for this.

I'm affraid that this fix will not be available in 5.9.1. The problem is actually in Marvin and it's release is expected to happen every day. IJC 5.9.1 will be released next week, but we use the latest Marvin...

Additionally if you change it in the 5.9 project you have to change "Display type for 3D molecules" to wireframe even if you display 2D molecules(they are bound together, Display type for 3D always overwrites Display type for 2D - that's the bug).

The solution with find and replace I suggested might work good with localdb but hardly on Oracle/MySQL, is it your case?

Dear all,

I am having the same trouble after upgrading to 5.9. All forms with structures show ballstick instead of wireframe. I am not having 100+ forms but still this is annoying, because when I change the setting in a form and close IJC the change is not persisting. The restart of IJC again shows ballsticks and I have to go through the forms again. So a clear cut solution would be appreciated.

The issue with ballsticks will be fixed in InstantJChem 5.9.1.
