Add CAS field to table grid

Hello,

How can I add a CAS number to my table grid?  All of the numerical field options only allow digits, not dashes.  Is there no dedicated field for storing CAS numbers?

Thank you!

Follow-up question: how can I switch from Grid view to Form view?  It seems I could add CAS numbers in one of the form views...  I can't find a toggle feature.  My form view just shows up as empty under the same database.

There is no specific field type for a CAS number, and the best approach is probably to use a text field so that the hyphens can be entered. You can use this in both the grid and form views. Just add a new field, and for the form view, then add a text field widget to the form to display the values.

You can create multiple form or grid views for any particular data tree, and you can switch between them. With the form view you need to define the layout by adding widgets to the form and postioning them as appropriate. Thank you, Tim,

I did figure these things out after a few days of playing.  Unfortunately, I didn't understand the concept of "Widgets" in the help file, and I thought the info I had input would just automatically show up when I switched to Form View.  I eventually accidentally created a widget by clicking around.

Maybe "widget" is not the best word to use...?  I think just "Form Field" would be easier to understand.

Anyway, thanks very much,

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

maybe the grid view might be better for you as it doesn't need to be designed, and is a bit more automatic. The form view, by it very nature, needs more up-front effort as you need to decide what appears on the form and where. The differences are explained here:
https://www.chemaxon.com/instantjchem/ijc_latest/docs/user/help/htmlfiles/managing_data/viewing_data.html

However, if you do prefer the form view, then information on how to design it can be found here:
https://www.chemaxon.com/instantjchem/ijc_latest/docs/user/help/htmlfiles/managing_data/form_view/design_mode.html

Also, there are some animations that show all this in action. See here for a basic one about the form view
https://www.chemaxon.com/2009/11/26/building-forms/ />or here for a complete list
https://www.chemaxon.com/products/instant-jchem/instant-jchem-animations/ />Several of these are a bit out of date, and are currently in the process of being updated, but they should still give a good idea of how to do things.
