Marvin applet does not remember last folder used

Hi there,

I often need to open a mol file from the Marvin applet.

When I select File -> Open, I always find myself at the Users/myname/Documents folder, and I have to scroll up, select the C drive, then drill my way to the actual folder where the mol files are stored. doing it once is not that bad, but I have to do it at probably a hundred times a day...

Under Edit -> Preferences, Save/Load tab, I find a field called Default location, where one of the options is "Last location".  Even though I selected this option, the applet does not remember the last location, and always defaults to the Users/myname/Documents folder.

Another option there is to specify a custom directory. If I choose that option, the applet will use that directory within the same session, but once I start a new Marvin applet, it forgets and goes to the dreaded Users/myname/Documents folder.

Could you please fix it?

Thanks,

Ron

I should add that I am using Windows 7 64-bit and firefox. I have had the problem for years, using all versions of Firefox I can remember.

Hi Ron,

sure we can fix this, I am evaluating the issue, and file a bug report on this. If it is fixed, or if we could find a workaround, then we will notify you in this topic. Unfortunatelly we can not address this for the upcoming 5.10 release, but I assume we can fix this soon.

Istvan - thank you. I waited with this bug report until you fix the other one I reported (with the user templates). I do not want to overwhelm you with too many bugs at the same time...

Hopefully this one will be simple enough to incorporate it into a minor future release.

Istvan, Efi,

I am using 5.12 now, and the bug has not been fixed yet.

Hi Ron,

Sorry it was my mistake. The fix works properly in the desktop version, but unfortunately, not in the applet. I will notify you, when it is ready.

Istvan, Efi,

When I emailed last time, I made a mistake - I was actually using 5.11, not 5.12 (which wasn't released at the time). But today I really downloaded 5.12, and it still doesn't work.

I have to tell you I am very disapointed - I have been waiting for this bug fix for such a long time, first it didn't make it into 5.11, and now it didn't make it into 5.12. I guess that I will have to wait at least until 5.13 now...  :(

Sorry about that, it turned out to be harder to fix it than we estimated before. I do not want to disappoint you, but even 6.0 release will not include it. It is on our toDo list, but we are still looking for a nice solution how we can introduce it into the applet (it works in desktop version (Marvin-Beans)).

Hi Efi,

Well, I can't say I am not disapointed, but I am glad to hear that you guys still remember it and are working on a solution. It will be good to have it solved at some pont. Until then, I will just click my way around...

Cheers,

Ron

Hi Ron,

At least this bug has been fixed, so in the next major release (6.2, planned release: end of 2013) it will work for the applet, too. We hope you will be satisfied with that.
And thank you for your patience.

This bug is mentioned in another forum as well: https://www.chemaxon.com/forum/ftopic10702.html , please have a look at that as well.

I hate to say it, but I downloaded 6.1, and I see no difference in behavior...

Dear Ron!

I think, you have missed that it will be released in 6.2. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
