Closing windows vs. quitting program in Mac OS version

Something that's always bugged me about Marvin is the way it does not follow the Mac's user interface convention, which is that closing a window merely closes the window, and does not quit the program.   Marvin, in a way that always drives me a bit crazy, quits running whenever I close the drawing window, and has to be re-launched.

Is there any reason this cannot be fixed?
