Hello,

i'm new to Marvin and i hope this question isn't too stupid. But i can't manage to draw a simple abbreviation for a group. I want to draw the very simple part of molecule:

Si-OR

but it won't work. How can i do that? I can draw "Si-OH" (which is what is drawn when i draw the oxygen) and when i activate this OH and want to write "OR" there are many suggestions in the upper left corner (OEt etc.), and it shows "OR" when i write it, but it still remains "OH". What am i doing wrong?

thanks,

theresa.

Hi,

The OR abbreviation is not included in the default abbreviations, so you have to create it:

1. Draw the molecule without abbreviation (Si-O-R)

2. Select the O and R atoms

3. Right-click, and select the "Group" option from the popup menu

4. Select the "Superatom (abbreviation)" Type (this is the default)

5. Type OR in the Name field

6. Click OK

7. Right-click over the O-R bond, and select "Contract Group" from the popu menu

Best regards,

Akos
