I'm looking at a student's computer. MacOS 10.6.8, Safari 5.1, Java 1.6 (32- and 64-bit versions both enabled).
When he goes to Sun's Java test site, it shows that his Java is working fine: Java SE 6 Update 26.
However, when he goes to any page displaying Marvin 5.4.1.1, e.g., this LiveConnect test page, Marvin usually fails to load. The Safari error console shows this error: Assertion failed: ReaderArticleFinder aborting CandidateElement detection due to timeout. I have tried emptying the Java cache and the browser cache, to no avail. If I have the Java console turned on, it crashes and closes itself when I try to load MarvinSketch.
The same thing happened when I went to your Marvin test page.
In my repeated tries, I once was able to get Marvin to load, but when I went to another page, the problems started again, and when I went back to the page where it had worked, it no longer did.
Any ideas?

I found some reports on the Web that the problem is a bug in Java 1.6. I went to the trouble of installing Java 1.5 on the student's Mac, and I turned off Java 1.6 in the Java Preferences, but no joy. I also found a report that said that the culprit for the ReaderArticleFinder aborting CandidateElement detection due to timeout error is a Java extension called mmj.jar or libmmj.jnilib, but I was able to find neither of these extensions in the suggested location.

The student brought his computer back to me, and MarvinSketch was working. So, never mind....

Hi,
I can't find the reason of failing.
I tried to reproduce this, on a mac with same preferences. there was just one time when it failed to load, but worked after reloading the page. On the safari error console I got the same error message often, but the Applet worked fine. It is a general java bug i don't think so that's why our applet don't work.
Best Regards,
Erneszt
