one more bug: Marvin Sketch damages SDFs

Hello again,

I use the latest Marvoin Sketch on Windows 2000 in Parallels 5 on Mac OS X 10.6.2. I have to make changes to a number of SDFs. I just realized that when I save them twice, the file is damaged - it consists only of "NUL"s when opened in a text editor. Everything is fine when saved for the first time.

This bug should have been noticable earlier - so I wonder what caused it. Unfortunately, I changed a lot in my working environment this week, I switched to a new MacBook Pro with an SSD in it, upgraded Parallels and also Windows 2000 (via automatic update) and I updated Marvin yesterday (5.2.5 -> 5.2.6).

Anyone has any hints...?

Thanks!

Best,

Thomas.

Update:

- I reinstalled Marvin and used the version including the JRE this time. Doesn't make a difference.

- I can save my work to a new file instead of saving an old file the second time with changes. This doesn't damage the file. This is at least a workaround.

Best,

2nd Update:

The SDFs I work on are in my user space on my Macintosh HD, which I can access via Parallels Shared Folders. I now copied an SDF into the VM's drive - bug is gone. Also copied an SDF on an SMB share - bug is also gone. So it's very likely a Parallels problem - argh... :-(

 Best wishes,

We have not tested Marvin under Parallel 5. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Tamas,

I'm pretty sure it woked fine in the past under Parallels, something must have been changed to cause this bug. Since it's Parallels Shared folders, I try to work this out with Parallels (I filed a bug report there and so far received some very general hints from them). I will keep you posted about the progress.

I'm interested if anyone else here has come across this problem, or if I'm the only one (= it's due to my particular system configuration)...

Hi all,

latest news: the folks at Parallels were able to reproduce this bug. They will pass the issue on to their developers to have it fixed.

Best,

Hi all,

I was informed by Parallels today that they fixed the bug, so the fix will be included in the next build of Parallels Desktop.

Best wishes,

Thomas.
