Hello,

I have problems to draw the acid base reaction of Hydrochinon.

I do not know how to draw the resonance structures. It doesn't work with the resonance arrow

Please help me

Hi,

Please check the output of the Resonance Plugin (Tools->Other->Resonance, attached also as image)  for Oc1ccc([O-])cc1. Which form do you need?

I think it must be number 2,3 and 7.

These are the mesomeric structures, aren't they ?

Just sketch the structure, and place the charges on the apropriate atoms, or run the Resonance plugin, and copy (CTRL-C) the structure you need to the sketcher.

Yes, these are mesomeric structures.

I hope this helps,

Thank you very much.

But isn't it possible to draw a resonance arrow and a square bracket with a negative charge.

That was my concrete problem

Hi,

If you need only one resonance arrow, you can  use the resonance arrow, but if you want to draw more than two resonance structures, you need the graphical arrow pair of it (Insert > Graphics > Two-headed arrow).

The feature to display charges on brackets has been released in version 5.2.0. You have to create a "Generic" type group from the structure, and choose the option to display the charge on the bracket. Now, if you add a charge to an atom, it wil be displayed on the bracket. If you have several charges, the sum of them will be displayded (http://www.chemaxon.com/marvin/help/sketch/sketch-basic.html#groupcharge).

If you have a previous version, you can display the charge only as attached data (Structure > Add > Data) positioning it as "Absolute", then moving it to the place outside the bracket where you want.

Best regards,

Akos

Thank you very much.

I have added the "plus" with Structure > Add > Data , too.

It works, but when I open the work later, the structures are at one point and not in the correct order

So it means you use an older version of MSketch. Can't you update to your Marvin? After 5.2 it is much easier with the charge on bracket feature.

For the positive charge as attached date issue: Can you send the mrv file to be able to investigate it? Thanks.

Best regards,

Akos

I wrote it already in my first reply:)

I made a modification of your mrv file. Is it OK with you?
