Deuterated methyl

I am using MarvinSketch to create structures for a publication.  I am
trying to created deuterated methyl groups. I am successful if I expand
the explicit hydrogens and then ionize them, but I cannot collapse
them, thereafter.  Since the space-allocation for this journal is so
small (one figure) I need to make the structures as small and simple as
possible.  How can I create a CD3 molecule?

Hi,

If only the CD3 label is important, then open The Periodic table, switch to the Query tab, then select the Alias button in the last row, type CD3 in the Value box, then click on the carbon atom.

If the chemical structure behind is also important, then you have to create a Superatom S-group with CD3 label:

1. Connect 3 Deuterium atoms to the Carbon atom (type D on the canvas, then drag-draw three times from the Carbon)

2. select the Carbon atom together with all the 3 Deuterium atoms

3. right-click > Group

4. In the Name box enter "CD3" then click OK

5. move the mose over the CD3 group, then right-click > Contract Group

I attach a sample file as well.

Best regards,

Akos

Works beautifully!  Thanks!
