Marvin problems with Java versions in IE

We've had some serious issues with users not being able to load Marvin using Internet Explorer. Initially we thought this was simply due to users having an older version of Java, and we recommended they upgrade to v1.6.0, or more recently, Java 6.

However, it seems that even with more recent versions there are still problems. In some cases users access our page and part of the screen turns black, while in other cases the browser window just freezes and one needs to access the Windows Task Manager to close the programs. This behavior has occured on both Windows XP and Vista platforms.

We have been able to get some feedback from users who have managed for find machines on which Marvin does, or doesn't work:

Marvin loads fine: Java 6, build 1.6.0_05-B13

Marvin doesn't load, IE freezes up - Java v 1.6.0_OEM, build 1.6.0-OEMB104

I'm guessing there is something different about the OEM build. Is this an issue you've encountered before?

We've had similar reports from users with IE 6. Any info or fixes you can supply would be greatly appreciated, as these problems are hurting our users and our business.

First, I neglected to post the versions of Marvin that our users could not load. Neither 5.0.1 nor 5.0.4 worked for them. Has ChemAxon had any feedback from users in corporate environments where they were not able to load Marvin due to Java versions or any security settings? If so, can you share those with us?

We have not tested Marvin with Java 1.6.0_OEM.

You are the first who has given feedback about it.

Where do you download Java 1.6.0_OEM from?

Hi Nicko,

I have received your example code in email. I have answered to your email in private.

I'm not sure once can easily download 1.6.0_OEM. I believe it must be a version that is shipped with pre-installed Windows and IE bundles. It may be necessary to get it directly from Sun.

Apparently the OEM build is causing general problems with Vista:
