For example, if I draw:
H+ + Br- -> HBr ->
the first reaction arrow is converted to a plus:
H+ + Br- + HBr ->
How do I avoid this? Thanks.

I have Marvin 5.1 and this is still not possible.
I wish to draw a scheme with multiple equilibrium arrows and there is still no way to acheive this very basic functionality. Also there is no graphical equivalent of the equilibrium arrow so I cannot even use that workaround. What a joke - this is so basic. How is one supposed to construct a multi step reaction scheme!??!

Just updated to 5.2.6 on Linux - problem still exists. That means booting into windows to use Chemdraw.

Hi,
The equilibrium arrow is really missing from the graphical arrows. We will implement it soon.
Best regards,
Akos

Please, don't forget about retrosynthetic arrows! It would be useful, too. Thanks in advance.

We need a retrosynthetic arrow in the graphical arrows as well. I drew one with graphical lines, but it was not pretty.

Akos is out of the office till 4th January. He can answer your post after it.

In case anyone wants it, here is the MRV source for a retrosynthetic arrow:

Hi Bob,
We will implement a graphical retrosynthetic arrow, as well. But yours is quite good, too :) Thanks!

Akos

So any planned upgrade including proper multistep reaction support?

Hi,
We still had no capacity for this development. Currently it is planned for version 6.0. Sorry.

Well, here we are in 2015, with Version 15.3.16.0, and still this weird problem persists.
Draw a second arrow, and the first one turns into a + symbol. That's a first-class bug!

Dear Jpdemers,
Marvin Sketch only supports single step reactions, so, when you draw a second step, than that becomes the only step, and the molecules of the first step become the reactants of the newly drawn reaction. Since we do not support multi-step reactions this is an expected behavior of the product. Currently we do not plan to implement this feature you are asking for. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Regards:
Balázs
p.s.: However if you only want to visualize multiple steps you can use graphical arrows to draw reaction. If you could provide us more data about why you need this feature, where would you use it, and why can't this only graphical representation of multi-step reactions fulfill your needs, that might could motivate the management to change their plans. You could also send your exact request to our support e-mail to marvin-gui-support _at_ chemaxon.com and we can also provide you a secure way to exchange files if you have any confidential structure to present your exact needs.

OK, this is probably in the instructions somewhere, but I did discover under the "Insert" menu the "graphical arrows." These you can deploy all over the place, as I expected would be the case in a drawing program. (If you look at any organic chemistry publication, you'll see synthetic schemes with multiple steps and multiple arrows... this is where the need for multiple arrows arises.)
The "reaction arrow" within Marvin Draw is obviously endowed with extra powers, that I don't yet appreciate.
Thanks for the quick reply!

We use reaction arrow to fit industry standards in searching and storing one step reactions. We also have a product called Reactor that can autogenerate products of reactants and agents due rules given with reaction molecules. For only graphical purpose (like in publications) graphical arrows gives enough features that is why we do not plan to change this behavior. I hope graphical arrows will be enough for your project also.
