Help Button in Marvin 5.0.0 does not work

I have installed both Marvin 4.1.13 and 5.0.0. In MarvinSketch 4.1.13 the help button does work fine, but in MarvinSketch 5.0.0 the help button shows no effect at all (SuSE Linux 9.2 and KDE 3.3). What's wrong ?

Hi,

is there any error message on the console when you try the Help button?

In MSketch 5.0.0 JavaHelp is supported. If jh.jar is in the classpath, JavaHelp should be available, otherwise our custom help navigation window appears.

The quick solution is to remove jh.jar from the classpath, but let's try to solve it with JavaHelp.

Thank you for the details.

We have found the problem, and it will be fixed in the next patch release.

Until that the online version of the same documentation is available at: http://www.chemaxon.com/marvin/help/sketch/sketch-index.html

Kind regards,

Judit

Hi Judit,

next weak we will have the computer chemistry course. And I must use the Marvin version 4.1.13, because the online documentation has no "Find" function.

In the Linux community it is common to have "pre-releases" or "beta-versions" of the software, before the next release is published. Those who want to try the new features, use these versions.

Dear Hans-Ulrich,

we will create a pre-release in the days (probably today).

Hi Judit,

Super !

This morning we have installed Marvin in our student computer pool, so we will now replace it with the pre-release.

Thank you and your team.

Hi Judit,

the installation works fine, the help button is now OK and the icons are automatically installed on the KDE desktop, see the screenshot.

The molecule is the blue colorant indigo :-)

Thank you once more.

Hi Judit,

I just found in the /test/marvin folder, there is a new version 5.0.1pre2 (February 12).

What are the differences to pre1 , which we have installed ?

The installation of new versions makes some work in our computer pool.

Hi Hans-Ulrich,

I suggest to wait the 5.0.1 release instead.

The pre2 version is just an internal test release of 5.0.1 which will released in the days. The full changes list of 5.0.1 will also be available then.

Kind regards,

Judit

Hi Judit,

I am disappointed. Why are the test releases blocked ?

I think you know me as a user who tests your software very intensively. And I have found several bugs for you.

Please open the "door" to get older versions.

Hi Hans-Ulrich,

do you still need the test release after 5.0.1 is out for some reason?

The test site (www.chemaxon.com/test/marvin) is disabled now because there is not any (pre / test) release that is newer than the current offical 5.0.1 release.

When a newer test release is built, it will be uploaded into the test site.

Hi Judit and Tamas,

having long year experience in programming and using software I often went back to earlier releases when I found problems in the newer version. So I suggested to a student who had problems installing 5.0.1 to try an elder version. But there was no elder version any more on your website.

For example when you change to a new version using a newer JAVA version and I cannot install this newer JAVA version, because my operating system is too old. What should I do ? Installing a new operating system only to get Marvin ? No, "never change a good running system".

As you can see in "sourceforge.net" you can often get some elder versions.

And in the beginning of this topic it was good to have an elder version.

But OK. I have 4.1.13 to test.

Don't worry. You can access also earlier versions.

On the bottom of Marvin download page, you can find a link to archives (downloadables of previous releases).

I copy here the link: archives

The last few test releases are also available in the download area: test/archives
