I have downloaded the new Marvin 5.0.0. Looks fine !

One new feature are the clipboard options, see screenshot.

But I have problems with it. Trying to copy/paste a structure from MarvinSketch to OpenOffice 2.3 it works only with "SMILES", with "Chemical Structure" or "Bitmap Image" there is nothing in the clipbaord. Neither OpenOffice nor the clipboard watching program Klipper does show any content.

I am using SuSE Linux 9.2 and KDE 3.3.

Indeed, there is a image copy issue under Linux.

Although the image is on the clipboard native applications can not recognize it (only Java can see it).

We will debug it.

I have take a research in this issue.

It is a known Java bug on Linux platform (reported it in the Sun's Database): Bug ID: 6607163 Linux: Cannot copy image from Java to OpenOffice

So, it is not Marvin's fault. Neither Java 1.6.0 and nor earlier Java versions can copy image into Gimp and into OpenOffice.

As I see, Sun is working on this issue. Copy from Java into Gimp has been already solved. It is already available in the latest pre-release of Java 1.6.0_10 (build b10, January 11, 2008). You can download it from the following URL: http://download.java.net/jdk6/

Since copy into OpenOffice is still wrong, I can recommend the following workaround:

Use the mentioned Java pre-release for running Marvin. Copy image from Marvin to GIMP (insert it into an empty image). Then select the pasted image in GIMP and copy it into OpenOffice.

Hi Tamas,

thank you for your research. We will download the new Java version and will try to use workaround.

This forum is a fine thing :-)

Hi,

I found an easy workaround to copy/paste a Marvin image to OpenOffice on Linux. Use Ksnapshot 3.5.2.

1) Produce the image in Marvin.

2) Start ksnapshot and cut an area ("Bereich") of the image you want. This can be single a formula or the total screen.

3) Copy the screenshot to the clipboard ("Zwischenablage").

4) Paste the image into OpenOffice.

See the two screenshots (Also produced with ksnapshot ;-)
