Display all C

Is it possible to display all C-atoms in a selected object (for instance, a molecule) without having to do as in http://www.chemaxon.com/forum/ftopic2046.html&highlight=show+c for every C-atom?

That would be great.

No, currently, there is no other solution to display all carbon atoms in the structure.

But we will consider your request to implement a display option to show all carbons.

Excellent, that could be the end of chemsketch through wine.

The method of displaying C for all (or selected) C atoms in a structure that is described in the link does still work in MSketch 5.0.1 Feb 18 2008 build, but I was wondering if there is an update to this thread? In the new version, is there a new general option for displaying all atoms on a page, or does this remain the only way?

If you mean the link in the original post of this topic, it DOES work. In that other topic Bob gave a hint how to assign aliases to atoms, which is actually can be used as a workaround. I used this trick in the attached .mrv file to display all atoms of cyclohexane as "C".

On the other hand, I agree that it is not the proper solution for this, and we are considering the implementation of the corresponding display option - but due to the tons of feature requests I cannot promise that it will be implemented in the next major release.

Thank you - that is what I meant. As you realize, we are looking for a less cumbersome way to get the job done, and I appreciate you considering it for future releases. In my naive view, it should be simple: if there is some logic in a subroutine that decides to refrain from displaying a "C" somewhere, the first line of that pseudo-code might now be

if (DisplayAll == true) return;

Probably an oversimplification, but ...

This task is more complicated than just inserting a line into the code.

So I can not promise to do it till next major release. But we have already got a task about it in our feature request database.

I agree this would be a useful option. But please make sure the default is still NOT to display the C's!

Of course, we will not change the default behaviour of Marvin.

An option to display all carbons with the C label has been implemented in MarvinSketch and released in version 5.1.2. You can set this option on the General tab of the Edit > Preferences dialog. There are three options now:

- All carbon labels are visible

- No any carbon label is visible

- The old, and still default behavior: carbon labels are visible only with implicit hydrogen atoms and at carbon atoms with two (and only two) bonds in straight angle.
