Where do I put licence key on the server?

I've recieved a licence key for MarvinSpace - thankyou. I am running marvin on a webserver for my students to access.

When I update the licence key for Marvinspace, it stores the key on the client machine under the chemaxon folder in my home folder (in windows). There seems to be no storage of the key on the server, implying that all my students will need a licence key to be able to use the website.

Is there some way I can store licence keys on the server side? I read that you should put the licence.dat file in the website owners home directory (my server is linux). I've tried that - still get "Marvin space 1.4.1 DEMO VERSION" when I try to view molecules created in Marvin sketch.

Visit www.molecularmagic.net to see what I mean.

As I mentioned in the previous topic (Newbie needs lots of help!), we will discuss it in email.

If the owner of your web server is root, put the license key file, license.dat, in ~root/.chemaxon/ .

HI, Alex here.

In the case of Academic Package (which is the use we are discussing here) we do not license the use of Calculator Plugins on publically accessible websites. We can allow you to generate data for molecules you store but not for 'any' molecule a visitor can draw. Notice that even without keys any user can generate a prediction for each functionality per session before requiring key

If you want this sort of functionality then you should use the public implementation we have at our site here: http://www.chemaxon.com/demosite/marvin/index.html

hi bobgr - how do I find out who owns the webserver?

Should I repost this thread on the MarvinSpace page?

Whoever set up your web server should have that information. If you set it up, then it's probably under your login ID. Have you had to restart the server? What do you log in as to restart it? That's the owner.

I set it up and I login as root. I've tried creating a folder in root home called .chemaxon and copied my licences.dat file there. Do I need to restart the server?

Hi,

sorry for the late response, I should've posted a reply earlier, but I couldn't answer all of your questions.

The main thing is, that the MarvinSpace DEMO VERSION title has no connection with licenses.

An unregistered MarvinSpace has a yellow unregistered license label at the lower left corner.

The DEMO VERSION title shows that this is a functionally limited version of MarvinSpace.

We will answer why very soon in the MarvinSpace thread.

Thankyou. I'll continue discussions on the Marvinspace thread.

I doubt it -- each time Marvin loads, it should look for the answer keys -- but try it and see if it works. If it doesn't, restart the server and try again.

As noted below, the license keys enable the calculator plugins, not MarvinSpace.

Mark needs to copy license key into the "/root/.chemaxon" subdirectory of the web server only if he wants to run calculations on the server side. (This is probably not the case)

The applets don't read the settings in that directory.
