polymers

MarvinSketch needs a way of drawing polymers. To do so, the user would need some way of denoting a repeating unit with "dangling ends". The user should also be able to denote block copolymers such as (-A-B-)m(-C-D-)n.

Polymers also present some unique stereochemical issues, but I believe that these could be handled in a mathematically equivalent way if JChem joined the two dangling ends to make a ring.

We plan to support polymer drawing in one of the next versions.

Is there any progress on supporting polymers?

Not yet. The development project in which polymer drawing will be implemented was delayed. I hope, that we will start Q1 2005, but not sure yet.

Hi,

I am still in need to a method of showing a repeating unit in a polymer. See the drawing of chitin below. Will Marvin 4.1 be able to draw such a structure? (It's OK to have ( ) around the repeating unit instead of the squiggly lines.)

Hi Bob,

We are planning to implement polymer brackets this year, but very likely that will not be included in 4.1.
