MarvinSketch default save/load location Ubuntu

I'm using MarvinSketch 16.12.19 on Ubuntu 16.04 with openjdk 1.8.0_111.

I'm trying to change the default save/load location through the Edit->Preferences dialogue (Save/Load tab). I've selected 'Custom Working Directory' and chosen a folder through the browser. However, when I go to save or open a file the dialogue box automatically goes to folder /opt/chemaxon/marvinsuite. 

The Preferences dialogue seems to remember the settings I've chosen no problem (even if I close the program and open again), and I notice in the file ~.chemaxon/marvin.properties has the variable loadWorkingDir is set to the folder I would like. 

Is there anything you can suggest?

 

EDIT: just realised this is a repeat of Bojan's post: https://tickey.chemaxon.com/tickets/default-directory . I can add that this affects installations via the deb.

As Efi mentioned this issue is on our todo list. However I was curious about this problem and I have a draft solution. Unfortunately I couldn't find an elegant workaround for this so you should wait until we are applying my changes.
