How to draw an Alcohol

Hey there,

I
downloaded this program to dram simple structures and reactions on my MacBook
Pro. I need them for the university.

Now I cant
seem to draw a simple alcohol because the program wouldn’t let me insert an –OH
group to the end of a chain. It only shows me the option OHC but that doesn’t
make any sense because you can’t link an oxygen atom via a hydrogen atom to a
carbon.

 Please if
anyone can help me, I would be extremely grateful.

 PS: Sorry
for my English, I’m not a native speaker.

Hi,

my quick guess: try to type just a single O, without H. MarvinSketch is intelligent enough to add implicit H atoms.

(when you type OH it offers OHC which is the left name for CHO the abbreviation for H-C=O group).

Additionally you can use the O atom from the toolbar on your right. If you hold 'Shift' as well, the OH is added to the chain, otherwise it overwrites the selected atom.

You can find more information in MarvinSketch user's guide: https://docs.chemaxon.com/display/marvinsketch/MarvinSketch+User's+Guide

I hope the above is useful to you.
