Marvin + ISIS/Draw

Forgive me if this has been asked before...

When using MarvinSketch in a web page I am aware that it is easy to copy/paste structures to and from ISIS/Draw when the Copy mol/rxnfile to clipboard setting is set in ISIS/Draw. What I would like to know is:

1) Is there a technique/code/setting such that, when a user double-clicks in the MarvinSketch window, ISIS/Draw opens and any structure in the current MarvinSketch window is transferred for editing in ISIS/Draw?

2) ...when editing is complete in ISIS/Draw a button can be pressed so that the structure is transferred back to MarvinSketch?

Basically, what I am trying to say is that our chemists would like to use ISIS/Draw as their editor rather than MarvinSketch :-( and would like not to have to use the copy/paste method to transfer structures between MarvinSketch and ISIS/Draw (they are lazy)...

Kind regards and thanks in advance for any help...

I am not expert in this subject. I don't know how to do it.

I'm afraid not (but correct me if I am wrong). Marvin is written in java - its great advantage that it is a multiplatform application. A drawback of java applications is that the Windows specific object linking and dynamic data exchange cannot be done the same way.

Exactly.

I checked it now between Isis/Draw and MarvinSketch 4.0.4. The double-click method does not work. Neither the DDE button appears in ISIS/Draw (contrary to ISIS/Draw <--> MS Word for example). However, copy/paste via the Windows clipboard works flawlessly in both direction.

By the way, we are also implementing ActiveX support, so for example MS Word will be able to embed Marvin molecule objects.

Hi:

You talked about implementing activeX object for MarvinBean. Do you have time when it will be avaialbe and I guess it should be ok used with .net framework.

Thanks for any information,

Hi

Starting with Marvin 4.1, we will provide support for use with .NET via JNBridge (http://www.jnbridge.com/).

As far as I know, .NET support will not directly address the problem/requirement of the original poster. OLE automation is, to my knowledge, a different issue.

Thanks to all who have commented and sorry for my slow follow up.

From what I have read here and elsewhere on the web, I think what I originally mentioned should be possible using MDL Draw Enterprise Edition rather than ISIS/Draw...

http://www.mdli.com/products/framework/draw_enterprise/index.jsp

"- Drop MDL Draw into Microsoft Visual Studio.NET or Java applications

- Use MDL Draw in Microsoft Internet Explorer as an applet or .NET component"

...but it appears that MDL Draw is only currently available as part of MDL's Isentris system, i.e. $$$$$, so it is really a non-starter.

In my reading, these refer to developers working in a visual GUI builder development environment, not to end-users.

But that is true that if MDL/Draw has the same look-and-feel as ISIS/Draw, the applet->(.NET or windows native) step is not needed.
