Ball size in 3D Viewer

Hi,

When I look at a ball and stick model of a compound in 3D Viewer, there is no difference if I set the ball radius at 0.5 or 1.0.

Also, can I set the ball radius to look like a CPK model?

Hi Bob,

See the below pictures. The value of ball radius is 1.0 on the first picture and 0.5 on the second one.

Also, can I set the ball radius to look like a CPK model?

To tell the truth, the above question is not clear for me. Can you explain it?

By the way, I suggest you to try out MarvinSpace that is a high performance 3D molecule visualization tool. It supports a lot of extra visualization features.

Hi Bob,

isn't MarvinSpace suitable for your needs? It has a proper CPK model (spacefill), as well as Ball drawing mode, where the ball radius can be set (Display->Options->Protein).

If there is a reason why MarvinSpace is not feasible please let us know, it may help us to deliver a better product.

The same protein as posted by Tamas, here rendered with MarvinSpace.

No, you're right, MarvinSpace works very well for this purpose. I just didn't think of it.
