JChem on OSX Yosemite: "Cannot launch installer"

Hi,

I downloaded the latest JChem release 15.8.24.0 for OSX. When I hit the installer app on the .dmg, I get a dialogue box displaying

"Cannot launch “ChemAxon JChem Installer"

No compatible version of Java 1.6+ is available."

(see attached image)

When I hit "Open Java Preferences" nothing happens.

"java -version" gives 1.8.0_60-b27.

As a double check I downloaded the platform-independent Jchem zip (no installer). I can run some parts of it (e.g. molconvert). But when I run Marvin (mview), all I get is a black spash screen and nothing more. This makes me guess that it may be a GUI-related problem. On the other hand, instantjchem (latest version) runs just fine.

Any ideas on this? Do I need to install a different JRE?

Thanks in advance,

Michael
