IJC 6.0 release cycle

Hi all,

The version 5.12 is going to be released soon and so we need to plan the next release. It will be IJC version 6.0 and the release is currently planned around April/May. The attached spreadsheet describes the possible features that can be worked on during the 6.0 release cycle.

Except the feature which you prioritize we'd like to look also at these areas:

• general usability: we are getting feedback about complexity of IJC user interface. We'd like to simplify the most important usecases, make IJC more user friendly 


• performance: other round of performance improvements were done in IJC 5.12 in browsing complex relational data. A few more improvements are planned for 6.0

We believe these two areas are important for all IJC users.

Could you plesase look at the attached spreadsheet and send me your priorities by January 13th? Please fill 150 points for priority 1 and 150 points for priority 2.

Hi all,

we got the priorities from all of you already (thank you!) and collected them together. There are still some unknowns as we got also several requests for new features which were not listed in the original spreadsheet. We need to work on a quick evaluation and then I'll post one spreadsheet with collected priorities and proposal for the 6.0 plan.

Dana Vanderwall has asked me whether we can do a GoToMeeting session all together and discuss the overlap in priorties among companies - the same like what we did for 5.12 in October.

Hi all,

The attached document contains aggregated priorities from you. We are going to explain it in detail tomorrow in the call, but just very quick comments now:

• The total sum of priorities is done the same way like last release: P1 (priority 1) has 2 points, P2 has 1 point, so the result in column K is sum of these values from all of your + ChemAxon. Maximum was 6 points for some features.


• The spreadsheet is mostly ordered by this value - again the same like in 5.12.


• The 6.0 release will give us about 8 weeks for implementation of new features (it has already started last week). Based on previous experience we can fit about 90-100, in optimistic variant maybe 110 points into it.


• It means we should finish all tasks with 4-6 points, but not all with 3 points. Choosing the right tasks is the important task for tomorrow.


• Some tasks are not explained enough as they came later during prioritization and were not in the original spreadsheet. We can give more details tomorrow too.

So please take the attached version as a working version, not final plan for 6.0. The goal for tomorrow is to finalize it.

Hi all,

we are close to so called "feature freeze" for 6.0. It means that only bugs are going to be fixed after that time and no new features can be added. We still have several features in progress and hope most of them can be finished by this deadline.

The attached spreadsheet contains current status of development of 6.0. As we discussed during the prioritization call we wanted to do mainly all features which got 4 or more points in sum (column K), and we are able to finish only some of those with 3 points. I'll keep you informed about what finally could go into the release. It should be clear in two weeks from now.
