Determine R or S using getChirality method

Hi,

I have been using getChirality in my code for a while, today we notice an instance where in Marvin it shows the atom in question having chirality as R, whereas getChirality returns 8 for this atom. I always thought 8 translates to R. Is my assumption in correct. I cannot attach molecule due to confidentiality. Please let me know.

I also dig out an old posting dated 2005 to report similar odd behavior at using getChirality https://www.chemaxon.com/forum/ftopic464.html

Thanks

Hi,

Your assumption is correct, 8 means R. In the API you can use the StereoConstants.CHIRALITY_R value expect the value of 8.

thanks, will talk to Volfi today on this issue. It is a bit disturbing if the issue is confirmed.
