Drawing bonds to generic object (ie: for surface chemistry)

Sometimes I want to draw a structure that is bonded to some object or surface, which I would normally represent as a line or a box. Is there any way to have a bond connect with any of the basic shapes?

Sometimes a line of C-C bonds allows me to achieve the desired effect, but it can be annoying when Marvin tries to add implicit hydrogens to a 'structure' that is really playing the part of a line.

If I understand you correctly, you want similar bond to a graphical
object like on this picture. I suggest you not using ’’bond”, but line (menu
Insert>Graphics>Line). In that case you might need to adjust the valence
of the atom which binds to the surface (select atom than choose ’’Valence” from
the pop up menu); and to disable displaying valance (menu View>Misc>Valance).
